Stroke: Part 4.  “Only Going Forward ‘Cause We Can’t Find Reverse!”

I’m more or less recovered, with only a stutter and some memory issues.  I’m also making a lot more typos than I used to, but that’s what spellcheck and autocorrect are for.  And my leg has made drastic progress in the last three months.

All in all, I can’t complain too hard about the outcome.

So where to go from here?

Well, for starters, I’m going back to work on Monday.  That will be interesting.  I think I can do my job, but I’m honestly not entirely sure.  As I told my boss the other day, it will be business as usual or an unmitigated disaster.  There’s only one way to be sure.  I’m not worried about my coworkers being dicks to me.  They already think I’m pretty much indestructible and I just walked off a major stroke.

We’ll see how that goes.  Going back to my usual pay will be nice.  And considering how well my leg is doing I’m hoping to start working overtime in the next month or so.

I’ve scheduled my speech therapy appointments late enough in the afternoon I won’t have to miss work for them, and I have a follow-up with the neurologist scheduled so I have to leave an hour or so early.  That’s it aside from my wound care appointments every three weeks or so.  So I’ll be pretending to use less PTO and have more availability for OT.

I’ve also cut back my wound care appointments. The leg is looking a lot better, although my Infectious Disease doctor said I’m still at high risk for it to reinfect on Wednesday.

Once it warms up, I plan on hitting the trails finally.  There’s a nice park reserve near me (part of it is literally a block from me at the end of the street), with a decent trail network on the way to the hostibule.

The park reserve also has one of the best disc golf courses in the state, and I have another three or four within a quick drive of my house.  I already bought the discs and a nifty manpurse carrying bag for them, and I about a mile from the pro shop every few weeks.  Apparently Minnesota is the Mecca of disc golf.  Who knew?

Stacie and I are also planning pilgrimages to some nice restaurants we frequent.  It’ll be kind of a combination belated Xmas gift (we usually go with experiences rather than objects because we have more than enough stuff already) and celebration of my recovery and going back to work.

Every day, in every way I am getting better, better, and better.
