It is getting gorram creepy out there.
We’re about ten miles from where it’s really bad, and some of it is only five or six miles down a main highway from us.
Starting Thursday, stores near us were being boarded up and guarded by uniformed police. Once it starts to get dark, there are a lot of sirens and gunshots that last all night.
Friday night was the first night of the 8PM to 6AM curfew, and it’s supposed to last into Monday morning. Since the day job is 15 miles from home and I start at 6AM, Monday morning may be interesting.
When we went out Saturday, places even further from the unrest were boarded up and closed. The National Guard has been seriously mobilized; as of Saturday afternoon there are something like 3,000 troops deployed here. Saturday night the National Guard was out in force. We saw video of armed Humvees rolling through residential streets, one of them with a MAD antenna on the roof. They are not screwing around.
Apparently the fucking Klan was out in full regalia Saturday. There were also reports of a bunch of white supremacists being arrested. And several incidents of cars full of people with no plates being pulled over, only to have the people inside scatter and run, leaving their tools behind. These “tools” include firestarters.
Something like 70% of the people arrested for causing trouble were from out of town. We had already heard about a bunch of Texan white supremacists a few days ago.
Don’t worry about us, we’ll be fine. But I’ve been getting about three hours of sleep a night. That makes it hard to concentrate or even stay awake once I get home from the robot factory.
