Foot 2021, Part Four

Had my first follow-up after the surgery today.

He said it looks good.  Everything is healing up, and so far it looks like I’m making a solid recovery.  There’s still some drainage from one spot, but that’s to be expected from a bone infection like I had.

Doctor referred to it as my “Flux Capacitor” because of how the stitches worked out.  Just the vagaries of what good skin I had available when he was working on it.

He also told me I almost kept my toe.  Not the whole thing, mind you.  He had to remove the bone to get the infection, and apparently he toyed with the idea of leaving the toe itself attached.  Then it flopped over sideways and looked even worse than it does just not being there, so he reconsidered.

Good times.

Had my in-home nurse visit a few hours later.  She changed the dressing on the PICC line, took vitals, and sent some of my blood to the lab.  And was completely unimpressed by Finn’s feeble attempts to intimidate her.

Made bruschetta in between.  Turned out OK, except I used a different red wine vinegar than usual so it had a bit more vinegar taste than usual. No big deal.  Worked really well with some mozzarella on flatbread for lunch.

Yeah, I know.  All this excitement is just too much to handle.
