Two follow-ups in two days.
Yesterday I went back to the podiatrist who did the surgery. He said it looks good, it’s healing pretty well, and that the one spot that’s still leaking is to be expected considering it’s where all the stitches come together and is right over where the infection was on the foot bone. When I asked for a timetable he said it’ll be another two or three weeks. Which is to be expected all things considered. And due to the vagaries of scheduling probably actually means three or four weeks.
Stitches are still in, and I’m still supposed to keep it dry. So I’m still not allowed in the pool.
Today I saw the infectious disease doctor. She looked it over and said she agreed with the podiatrist. She liked what she saw so much she said the PICC line could come out “today.” Asked if I should have the nurses from the IV service come out and she said she meant as soon as she could get someone in to take care of it.
Waited a little while and the nurse came in, yanked out the PICC line, and had another nurse come in to wash some of the hatred off my foot. Considering some of it was bloodstains from the surgery, I wasn’t going to complain too hard.
My last Vicodin was a few days ago, so the pain level is much more manageable than two weeks ago. Now I just have to take antibiotic pills for the next couple weeks and let it finish healing so I can go back to work.
