Doctor Martin LaCour (GURPS)

Doctor Martin LaCour (100 points)

Doctor LaCour is Professor LaCour’s husband.  While she’s out investigating Things That Should Not Be, he’s at home saving lives at the hospital.

On weekends, especially when Giselle is out of town, he spends a good chunk of time at the fencing school.  He’s alright, but not great.  One of his low-key goals is to get better.  Martin enjoys the sporting aspects, and finds it relaxing after a week of emergency surgery.  For their part, the school is thrilled to have a member in good standing who can take care of any accidental injuries the students inflict upon each other.

Martin and Giselle give every appearance of being a perfect, happy high society couple.  In this case, appearances aren’t deceiving; aside from their lack of children, they’re the French-American Ward and June.  While there are occasional rumors about Professor LaCour and her student, Doctor LaCour largely ignores them.  Just as she ignores the rumors about Martin and the time he occasionally spends with Milos’s girlfriend while they’re out of town – who better to keep each other company than your own partners?

Notes: Martin is intended largely as a background and social encounter character; he was only designed as “Giselle’s husband” rather than an independent character.  He’s also pretty useful as a friendly doctor, because who ever heard of a Mythos investigator needing one of those?

If I was going to run him as a PC, I’d add 25 or 50 points and (among other things) use one of the full French fencing styles from Martial Arts.
