18 February: Bar Lampshade

It’s a typical bar lampshade like you’ll find over the pool table.  I used garishly-colored plastic for its material, in keeping with most of these kind of lampshades I’ve seen at various bars, pool halls and the like over the last few decades.

19 & 20 February: Human Model, Male and Female

Oh dear Elvis these were pains in my anoos.

This (obviously) is a LOD-A block-out.  These aren’t terribly detailed, but this is just a LOD-A rough draft that I’ll continue to refine through sculpting and other techniques probably starting next month.  I used 2D T-pose art references I found online as the baseline, then added blocks and spent far too long refining the shapes.  I didn’t add any materials to these models, because they just looked disturbing without sculpting.

As a side note, a coworker at the robut factory said the burst out laughing and female model’s “boobs look like shins attached to her chest.”  I warned her that she looked like a really unfortunate visit to the plastic surgeon, so I’s say she was spot-on.  And then when I told my wife what she had said it was her turn to start laughing and just said “well, you know…”

So they need more work before I call them LOD B.  Maybe I’ll have to perform some clos-up examinations on my wife.

I didn’t get farther simply because I work full time and I’m still recovering from a stroke.  The amount of concentration takes quite a bit out of you.  You can read all about it elsewhere on this blog.

Starting next month I’ll hit them with the sculpting tools, add textures, fingers, facial features, buttcracks, far more realistic breasts on the female model, etc.  I’ll also refine the clothing and accessories I made this week to fit the refined models.  Because you’ve all seen an article of clothing that just didn’t fit properly and it looks weird

Then I’ll add the bones, wire them for animation, and start homebrewing some animations.  That will be all kinds of fun.

21-24 February: Clothing and Accessories

Various articles of clothing and accessories for Halcyonian civilians.  Since I had the definite bar and grill theme in mind, I focused on bartenders, bikers, and hillbillies.  And since Halcyonians have no taste, I made them ugly and tacky – the height of Halcyonian fashion.

First off, we have an oversized pair of goggles.  Basic gold rims, blue tinted plexiglass lens.  Then I did a crocodile skin hat.  With a bright green hatband.  Fashionable.

Friday morning my stroke started to catch up with me.  At 8AM I started to lose the ability to write again.  It wasn’t quite as bad as back in October, but it made it really hard to do my job.  I managed to distract myself and relax, then finished out the day at a slower pace than my usual (which was still faster than some coworkers).  My buddy Tonny at the next bench over was a big help there.  So the next two models – the boots and the belt buckle – are a lot cruder.

It wasn’t my best work, but the stroke was really kicking my ass this week.  On the upside, I only have a short week and then I’m done.  Five more models and I can say I completed the challenge successfully.
