Had yet another follow-up this morning. Doctor looked it over and said it was healing pretty well. Well enough that he removed some of the stitches. I still have the stitches on the bottom of my foot, but the ones on the side have been removed.
The one bad spot is still weeping some fluid, but that’s to be expected. It’s right over where the bone was cut in my foot, and it’s where all the incisions come together. Other than that he said “there’s nice healing skin under there,” with “there” referring to the stitches he removed.
He also looked at my cellulitis, since I was wearing sweat pants and that’s right above my ankle. Said that looks pretty good too, and that it’s basically scabbing over really nicely. I’m blaming that on the jug of Keflex the infectious disease doctor gave me last week. I’ll be taking that for another week and a half.
That’s the good news.
The bad news is that I seem to be in a perpetual holding pattern of “a couple more weeks.” That one bad spot is bad enough that he isn’t going to clear me to go back until it’s good and healed over. I made a comment about it possibly getting reinfected because I was stupid enough to go back to work without it being healed yet, and he said “you don’t need any setbacks right now.”
No kidding. Any more setbacks probably become “we’re taking a couple more off this time” if I’m lucky. Yeah, no.
So it looks like at least two more weeks of screwing around at home being useless while it slowly heals. Fun.
And I can’t even go swimming because he still wants me to keep everything as dry as possible. Hell, I can’t even take a shower without having to put this plastic sleeve with a rubber gasket over my lower leg.
So yeah, the fresh wound is healing nicely, the damage from last year is pretty much healed except for occasional pain when the scar tissue slides around (or whatever it’s up to), and the cellulitis is finally healing over. Aside from some slight awkwardness and the cut part of the bone occasionally feeling like a toothache, I haven’t felt this good in a while. Like at least a year or so.
I really hope I get authorization to hit the pool again soon. It’s been taunting me since November.
