Despite my mobility issues, I am trying to get something accomplished. And really, what else am I going to do when I can’t do much but lie in bed, sit at my desk, and occasionally drive Mama on an errand? Don’t need both feet functioning to use a keyboard and mouse, and I’m hardly taking any vicodin at this point. Now I just need to let things heal to the point that sitting upright for more than a couple hours doesn’t hurt like a mothergrabber. Right now I get out of bed to do my IV antibiotics at my desk, spend a couple hours working on whatever I need my desktop to do, then slink back to bed.
Below you’ll see the laser submachine gun I’ve been working on. It was inspired by the old M3 “Grease Gun” in a number of ways. The backstory on it is that it’s a raygun made by an industrial laser manufacturer as a cheap, reliable, no-frills weapon for mercenaries and resistance groups. Hence the cheap plastic casing; the M3 was almost entirely stamped metal for ease of manufacture and maintenance. I ran with that and decided Aurora’s lasers were weaponized industrial cutting lasers marketed at groups looking for something that works and doesn’t need to be fancy. In-game it’s one of the primary weapons used by the Onyx Razor mercenaries. There will also be a pistol, rifle, and LMG made by Aurora. They’ll all feature that same general look.
Right next to it you’ll see the Phan Cutlery Powered Combat Knife. Like other Phan products, it’s a high-quality (if basic) tanto-style knife. In addition to the vibroblade circuitry, it includes a black corrosion-resistant coating to protect the blade’s alloys in hostile environments. While that’s technically true, the alloys used in its construction make it plenty corrosion resistant on its own. However, the coating looks cool especially to a bunch calling themselves “Onyx Razor.” The black plastic grip fits with Phan Cutlery’s background. They’re the oldest cutler on Lumley, a planet dominated by an ocean much saltier than Earth’s, so the divers there (pretty much everyone) needs a good knife that won’t rust from repeated submersion. No flies on any of the marketing people at Phan Cutlery.
Obviously, these are LOD A models. I need something to use in the project’s alpha release, but these won’t be the final version. Even Devil Monkey Games has standards! That said, if you’re expecting the final versions to look like something from the latest Fallout game you are drastically overestimating my abilities.
Anyway, my foot is starting to hurt, so I’m back to bed.
