Professor Giselle LaCour (GURPS)

Professor Giselle LaCour (100 points)

Giselle LaCour is a professor of antiquities and anthropology at a small university.  She spends most of the year teaching the next generation of archaeologists, historians, and anthropologists, and does a field expedition every summer.  Most of these expeditions are standard fare helping out with archaeological digs and the like, but sometimes they get really weird.

Professor LaCour carries a Smith & Wesson Safety Hammerless .38 in her purse when out in the field.  This is largely at her husband’s insistence.  He also insisted she learn to use it properly, despite having no desire to shoot anyone except in the direst of situations.  So far she hasn’t had to use it on anything more threatening than bottles and cans, and intends to keep it that way.

She is often accompanied on her field work by one of her students, a Romani student named Milos.  He’s a good traveling companion for several reasons.  As a strapping lad in good shape, he takes care of a lot of the physical labor involved in field work.  Because he’s a man, he often acts as her spokesman when dealing with people who refuse to deal with a woman seriously.  And as someone who takes his own relationship as seriously as she does hers, they both know there will be no monkey business out in the field.  Despite some laughable rumors, they are merely friends who share an interest in the stranger parts of ancient history.  Neither her husband nor his girlfriend consider the rumors anything but the ramblings of idiots.

Her field trunk holds obvious things like clothes, but also a small portable drawing and writing studio.  She also carries about ten box cameras in there.  When she gets back to the University, she has students develop most of the film for extra credit.  A few rolls usually end up back in her home darkroom, developed by herself and only usually seen by herself and Milos.  She’s trying not to get a reputation as a crackpot, but she and Milos have seen some strange things out there, some of which absolutely fly in the face of conventional history and anthropology.

Notes: Giselle is an investigator in the vein of Call of Cthulhu, designed using GURPS.  She isn’t a conversion, but built from the GURPS Horror Academic template.  The equipment assumes she’s in the field; she carries an entirely different purse at home with much more normal things in it.

I spelled out her loyalty to her husband for one simple reason: I absolutely despise the obligatory “ooooh!  Are they fooling around?  Jealousy!!11!” plotline.  If I was playing her in a game and the GM tried to introduce it somehow, it’s right there on the sheet that she, her husband, Milos, and his girlfriend all consider the idea laughable, and they’re all faithful to their partners.
