Matilda Lake, Age 28, Librarian
Matilda has spent most of her life in libraries, and currently works for a good-sized one in a large city. She knows her stuff, and can find almost anything on the shelves through memory. Her boss considers her one of his top people, and would absolutely hate to see her go.
Miss Lake is very dainty and very cute, in a “fairy princess” sort of way. She uses it to her advantage, wrapping men around her finger. Because she’s little and cute rather than strikingly beautiful, most of her marks don’t see it coming or even consider it anything even resembling a seduction attempt.
She’s also a witch. Her coven meets informally every moth, with bigger, more formal gatherings on their major holidays. They have a small library of “mundane” occult tomes, which she also maintains.
After her close encounter with a Mi-Go a few years ago, she has been obsessed with learning everything she can about the paranormal. Oddly enough, this revelation has caused something of a crisis of faith for her. She always believed there was “more” out there, but her limited Mythos research has taught her the truth is far weirder than she’d been led to believe.
If anyone in the group would be crazy enough to just open the Necronomicon and start reading, even knowing exactly what it is, it would be her.

Treasured Possessions: crystal pendant necklace given to her by a fellow coven member. She believes it has powerful protection energies against evil.
Traits: Epistomomania, Encounter with a Mi-Go.
Notes: Matilda being a witch was an amusing happenstance of the backstory rolls. I’d given her the Occult skill as part of her intended role as “the one who knows stuff.” Then I rolled “occultist” for her ideology, an NPC she idolizes as a significant person, and a place connected to your ideology for her meaningful location. Didn’t take much from there to make her a practicing witch. Then I threw in the Mythos Experience package just on general principle.
I like the possibilities for this character. If I end up doing a “bonus” GURPS conversion (using the guidelines in Cthulhupunk), Matilda is at the front of the line.
