Saw the wound care doctor on Monday. He looked it over really good, poked it with a stick (not joking), and said it looked really good. Foot hole looks healthy, no infection, no tendon or bone visible, is getting shallower, and 4cm x 1.5cm x .5cm.
Had yet another follow-up appointment today, this one with the infectious disease doctor. He looked at my vitals, all the reports from everyone else, and the picture from Monday (not direct observation because I had the wound-vac nurse earlier), and said everything looked good. No sign of infection that he could see.
So once I run out of antibiotics tomorrow morning I’m done with that part of the process. Which is good since that’ll be three weeks and they won’t prescribe this antibiotic for more than three weeks because it can seriously screw up your blood. It’s basically the nuclear option antibiotic.
This stuff is so rarely used my pharmacy clinician had to look it up when I asked about interactions because he had yet to have a patient that had it used on them in his career. He actually told me “I remember seeing the slide in school and knew I’d never see it in the wild. Thanks for breaking that.”
Between that and everything else, I’m down to just the wound-vac and screwing around all day. A week and a half of wound-vac for sure, maybe another week after that.
And no more doctor’s appointments for a week and a half. Just the nurse three times a week, which only takes fifteen minutes or half an hour.
My insurance company also more or less behaved itself, so my total bill (including the hostibule, ER, and all the follow-up appointments) as of right now is around three grand, maybe four. Waiting for everything to hit my account at the hostibule to total it all up. Considering I was looking at something like $22,000 without insurance, I’ll take it. I’d prefer to live in a civilized country, but I’m stuck here for the time being so this is pretty much a best case scenario for the land of weaponized capitalism.
Since I’m likely off until early September and can’t do anything but sit around the house, I think this calls for a Devil Monkey Games game jam. Going to be focusing largely on the Alliance FPS; think something along the lines of Metroid, Space Hulk, or Xenophobe, set in the Alliance. I’ll probably also work on general AI suitable for other game engines. There isn’t much functional difference between the AI driving a tank in an RTS and an FPS rifleman or Diablo-style RPG archer.
