You know your life is all kinds of screwed up when you say with a straight face “you know what? Now that I did the alpha test release I’m cutting back to aboot a hunnert hours a week.” That translates to ~45 at the robut factory, ~30 classes, and ~25 RSMDME.
The FPS engine is functional, if imperfect, so at this point it’s a matter of continuous improvement. Most of that is either tweaking existing code or adding new stuff.
So for the next month or two, I’m focusing largely on asset creation. Mostly 3D models and code for in-game scenery, equipment, antagonists, etc., but also some level design. This includes the classes necessary to improve my art and AI skills.
And some “research.” You know, WoW, Diablo, Fallout (1, 2, Tactics, and New Vegas), FEAR, Half-Life 1 & 2, BattleTech (HBS and tabletop), GURPS, Planet Mercenary, etc. Fairly certain the Head Monkey Wrangler over at Devil Monkey Games won’t pitch too much of a fit.
So my job now consists largely of “screw around with 3D modeling software in between playing video games,” when I’m not at the robot factory. My life is very strange.
