Create29 2024: Intro

This year’s theme is a typical rural bar on Halcyon.  Think hillbilly biker bar & grill with monkey fights and you have a pretty good idea.

Halcyon is not a wealthy planet.  It was settled relatively recently by a low population with an inferior tech base.  Add in its status as a minor (at best) trade hub, dangerous wildlife, and the backward attitudes of most of the population, and they’re not exactly riding high on the tech train.  What wealth there is tends to be concentrated in the hands of a few pharmaceutical companies or Beavisopolis Chirkport.

The whole planet is basically South Dakota 10 years in the future.  Or, for a more accessible example, it’s a frontier – think “Little House on the Prairie” or “Deadwood” in space with a few localized exceptions and you’re not that far off.

Most of their technology is chap and made of easy-to-find raw materials.  You need a chair or table, you cut down a tree, make planks out of it, and hail it together.  A lot of dished are simple plastic extrusions.  A lot of containers are either simple wooden constructions or a salvaged shipping container – those things are made to survive hard vacuum and being knocked around in a cargo hold.

The bar itself was influenced by an Irish pub, a pizza joint down the highway from me, and the Feast of Fantasy at Renaissance Festival.  It will feature plenty of seating at tables, a bar area, and a monkey pit in the center of the seating.

As always, these are going to be LOD A, and for the same reasons as always.  I have a few weeks of projects already (tentatively) scheduled.

The big change from last year is that I had a stroke late last year, right before Halloween.  According to my neurologist, it was severe, but very localized.  So this is actually part of my therapy to regain some brain function.

Another change from last year: no missiles or storage tanks.  I’ve already got plenty of each, and they’re easy.  I’m also limiting the weapons in general.  As of this writing, I have the month’s schedule mostly defined, and I only have one weapon post carved in stone, and one iffy.

Still another change from last year, is that I’m slugging together a few assets of a similar type and counting it as one post.  This is especially true for related housewares and the like; it takes about two minutes to make a drinking glass.  I’m not making a half dozen glasses and calling it a week’s worth of posts.  I could, but I have enough ideas for assets already, and it feels like cheating.
