Hostibule 2022, Part 2

So the morning after I got out of the hostibule I went downtown to a different hostibule for wound care.  I hate driving downtown.

So I got there, parked on the roof of the ramp, and staggered in.  Turns out the hostibule campus is a big U shape.  The ramp is just off the curve on one side, and where I needed to be was almost at the tip of the other arm.  And I had no idea where I needed to go.  So that was fun with a messed up leg.  I did get there eventually without any major issues and with a little time to spare.

Wound care was pretty straightforward.  They stripped off the last batch of bandages from the other hostibule and re-dressed them with some different stuff.  Talking to the doctor and nurses gave me some good information.

When I told them how hard everything accelerated after soaking the leg in Epsom salts and water, they almost visibly winced.  The doctor said that was probably one of the worst things I could have done because it took all the bacteria in and around the wound and everywhere else on my leg, dissolved it into the water, and let it go wherever it wanted from there.  Including deep into the wound that was already there, where it could go to town.

They also said I could take all the showers I wanted and make sure I hosed it out when I did.  Running water was great for these wounds because it would carry the bacteria away down the drain.

Then they sent me on my way with a big bag of supplies (in addition to the supplies I’d received from the other hostibule) and put in an order with a big medical supply place to get even more supplies shipped to me.  When that finally showed up, it was two big boxes of stuff.  Gauze rolls and pads, surgical pads, silver alginate dressings, tape, you name it.  Aside from one of the medications I need, they gave me a few months worth of stuff.

Then I went to work to fill in my bosses.  They weren’t thrilled that I’d be out the rest of the week, but they didn’t complain too hard knowing I could just as easily have wound up back on disability for a couple of months again.

So yeah, exciting stuff, I know.
